the need

The client needed to optimize environment setup and improve CI/CD efficiency across its infrastructure. A significant portion of environment provisioning was manual, which led to delays, inconsistencies, and human errors.

The existing Jenkins-based CI/CD pipelines were complex and unreliable, resulting in slower deployments, reduced developer productivity, and operational inefficiencies.

The platform required a more automated, reliable, and scalable approach to infrastructure management and deployment workflows.

the solution

Forgeahead implemented a modern DevOps transformation aimed at automating infrastructure provisioning and streamlining CI/CD workflows across environments.

Infrastructure provisioning was automated using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and AWS CloudFormation. This enabled consistent and faster setup of QA and production environments while significantly reducing manual intervention and configuration errors.

To further simplify and improve deployment processes, the existing Jenkins pipelines were replaced with GitHub Actions. This modernization effort reduced complexity, improved reliability, and enhanced execution speed across CI/CD workflows, resulting in more stable and scalable release processes.

The Impact

Faster Infrastructure Deployment

Accelerated environment provisioning through Infrastructure as Code automation.

Reduced Manual Effort

Automated decommissioning and provisioning of resources minimized operational overhead.

Improved Deployment Efficiency

Streamlined CI/CD workflows reduced build and release cycle times.

Lower CI/CD Failure Rates

Migration to GitHub Actions significantly improved pipeline reliability.

Stronger Resilience and Recovery

Improved disaster recovery with faster failover and restoration capabilities.

Reduced Operational Complexity

Simplified CI/CD architecture by eliminating heavy Jenkins dependencies.

Role of AWS

AWS services played a key role in enabling scalable infrastructure and operational efficiency. AWS EC2, Lambda, ECS, S3, and CloudFront provided a flexible and scalable foundation for application workloads, ensuring efficient resource utilization and performance at scale.

AWS CloudFormation enabled standardized and repeatable infrastructure provisioning, ensuring consistency across environments. Additionally, AWS CloudWatch, Kinesis, and DynamoDB supported real-time monitoring, performance tracking, and optimized resource utilization, helping the platform operate efficiently under varying workloads.

Tech Stack

The platform leveraged a robust AWS-based cloud infrastructure, including AWS EC2, Lambda, ECS, EKS, S3, and CloudFront.

DevOps and CI/CD processes were powered by GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Terraform, Docker, Ansible, and Kubernetes. Monitoring and observability were handled through AWS CloudWatch, AWS X-Ray, Datadog, Kibana, and PagerDuty.

Data and messaging systems included DynamoDB, AWS Kinesis, Kafka, and EventBridge. Security and access management were enforced using AWS IAM, AWS WAF, and Amazon ECR.
